Android OS Causes 74% Battery Drain?
location: droidmania.com - date: May 23, 2013
My Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic loses 100% of its battery charge overnight when I go to bed, even if it is fully charged at the beginning of the day. When its says "Battery critically low" and I push the "Battery Use" button the next morning, I get these stats:
Android OS 74%
Cell standby 8%
Phone idle 5%
Sometimes I hear it turn on and off and vibrate all by itself on my nightstand, as if it were electronically masturbating or something like that. Maybe it is connecting to my WIFI home network all by itself, but I had already unchecked the Connections Optimizer button. The only unique feature on my home WIFI is that I have the Sprint AIRAVE signal booster connected 24/7 to my Verizon FIOS modem/router combo since I live in a signal-poor area. But my phone stats show phone activity to be nil. What on earth is causing my Android OS usage to be at 74%?

kitkat 4.4.2 bbc weather app causes android system NlpWakeLock
location: androidpark.com - date: February 16, 2014
I know there are other battery related threads but I didnt want this observation to get lost in a multitude of other posts.
The BBC Weather app causes a lot of Android System NlpWakeLocks as seen by WakeLack Detector App on 4.4.2.
I was on rooted 4.3. Wanted to go to 4.4.2 so flashed stock 4.3 and allowed 4.4.2 OTA. Started to get a lot of Android System NlpWakeLocks's.
Used fastboot to erase system, cache, userdata partitions and then flashed 4.4.2 direct from official firmware. Still same issue.
After investiagation I have found it was the BBC Weather App causing the problem.
I uninstalled BBC Weather and rebooted, all fine for a few days.
Reinstalled BBC Weather and started app, immediately WakeLock Detector app shows Android System NlpWakeLock's increasing very fast, I hit refresh and can see the counts going up and an extra second of awake time is added every 5 seconds or so.
Uninstalled app and same problem still there. Rebooted and problem has gone. I t
Yahoo Mail causes major battery drain!
location: androidpark.com - date: August 29, 2011
Okay, I think I discovered Yahoo Mail as a major cause of battery drain on my Charge. First some background. At one point early on with the Charge I had great results of 20+ hours. That was shortly after setting up Humble and ImNuts Kernal, calibrating the battery, and installing basic apps.
As many of us do, I kept on tweaking from there. I tried various combinations of Imoseyon's kernal, EP1Q modem, and V6 supercharger and related scripts. At some point in the process I lost the battery life. I started getting 6-8 hours max! Of course at the same time I kept working on getting the "perfect" app setup. All this tweaking meant I couldn't tell what started the problem.
Anyway, I've since undone V6, gone back to PBJ kernal, and restored EE4's modem. I thought I noticed some improvement, but really it was no more than a couple hours more than before. Maybe 8-10 hours total.
So, I started thinking about how Data usage kills my battery at work. I get a very weak sign
What really causes android lag?
location: droidradar.com - date: March 9, 2013
I know several theories have been brought up( Java, ui threading from the google intern, too much different hardware,) but what do you think Really causes android lag? It reminds me of Windows in early days. What do you think causes it? Google made improvements on it in JB, But its not gone.

Since upgrading to 4.4 YouTube has been slow. It's so bad it's unusable. Same goes for loading the Play Store. I don't know if others have experienced this. I know my internet is fast enough.

Random Reboot causes
location: droidmania.com - date: June 20, 2012
I want to start a thread (so I did, as you can obviously see at this point) so we can log possible and confirmed causes for random reboots. I think there are multiple issues at hand, it happens in all LG stock base Rom builds, and obviously is caused by multiple problems, some of which have "solutions" found. Since a lot of people are having this issue (on this forum at least, by "a lot" I am referring to the percentage of people posting saying they have random reboots vs. the percentage of people not saying they have random reboots).
I'll slap a poll on here so we can try to get a better sense of the issue. I will also reserve the second post in the thread for listing causes and any possible solutions for them.

Creating a bitmap causes error
location: droidmania.com - date: January 10, 2010
Hi everyone. I'm totally new to android programming and I can't get rid of an error that occurs when running my application in my phone (the error doesn't occur in the emulator).
I'm trying to make a picture with the camera and then convert the byte that the onPictureTaken function returns into a bitmap. I tried 2 approaches that both fail. So hopefully one of you sees the problem
Below is the part of my code in which the problem occurs. When i just open and close the inputstream, everything works fine. But when i uncomment one of the two methods to create a bitmap, then the app crashes after taking about 3 pictures (on the fourth it gives the "application stopped unexpectedly" error). It only happens in the real phone, not in the emulator, so i don't have a logcat.
BitmapFactory.decodeStream returns null when bytes is null, or when bytes is not a valid inputstream to create a bitmap from, so i guess that the problem can't be that bytes is null or something like that.
Latest android update causes problems with voice commands
location: droidradar.com - date: March 28, 2013
I have a Motorola Droid 4..... Just in case others run into this, after the system update to my phone on 03/27/2013, I had problems with voice commands using my Bluetooth headset. After researching, I learned that I had to disable Google Search to correct the problem. If anyone has similar problems and needs help with this, just get in touch and I'll try to assist. Deb
